RE GLANDS -NEW PHANTOMCodename for PHANTOM I VALVES

With reference to the above we have alternative schemes Nos. 695 and 698 for White Metal Glands instructed by Mr. Bailey in place of Felt.

In the case of Scheme 695 the Gland is in four segments, which from a production point of view is quite impracticable. We do not consider that the Glands could be made a good enough job to prevent oil running down valve guides.

With regard to Scheme 698. This is a solid gland bush with conical seatings on each end, which under valve spring load should compress Bush making good fit on valve spindle to prevent oil going down valve guides. Here again, it is questionable whether the scheme would give satisfactory results.

We have, however, fitted these to a Cylinder Head which we have placed in the Stores for trial when required.
