For the attention of Mr. H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Armitage.

Dear Sirs,

We have now inspected a number of clutches which have been delivered with machined spherical seats, and regret to find that there is still a large proportion which fall outside the .005" limit, although there appears to be a distinct improvement over the state of affairs prior to the machining. We notice that all the nuts now heavily bed on the top of the seating instead of the root, suggesting that the radius of the cutter is too small.

Meanwhile, we are continuing to correct the clutches at our works, and it appears that the best arrangement will be for you to machine the seats, castellate the nuts, and drill the eyebolts, leaving us to make the final adjustment here. You, of course, would run the clutches in on your rig before delivery.

We should like your comments on this suggestion, and should be glad if you would look into what price adjustment would be involved.

Yours faithfully,

For ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
