Re: RR.56 LINERS FOR 4 1/4 LITRE BENTLEY CHASSIS.

With reference to our VA5/ET.30.12.36 concerning RR.56 liners for the main bearings of 4 1/4 litre Bentley engines, as mentioned in our memo, we shall be glad if, in the future, when RR.56 liners for the main bearings are sent to us, they are .110" thick instead of .100" as at present.

As mentioned in our memo, we find that the st[handwritten correction: ARD]ard. liners of .100" thickness are not thick enough when carrying out the "stepping" of liners, when attending to the bearing tightening job.

We are at present attending to chassis B.106.HK{Col. T. Harker - Sales}, Baron Guy de Rothschild, and changing the existing liners for some in RR.56 metal. We have had to "step" the upper faces of the liners in order to take out slackness due to the sinkage of the upper half of the bearings. We now find that we have got to ease several of the bearings by hand scraping, which is not to be recommended and could have been avoided if the liners had been thicker.

Needless to mention we do not want thicker liners for the big end bearings.
