REAR AXLE PINION.

We are returning the thrust washer which you will see has worn down approximately .020" allowing end float in the pinion.

Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} informed the writer after the same failure had been experienced on 35-EX., that it was because it was not put up tight in the first place. Does the same apply now ? If so, may we have them tight in future, please ?

Also the inner roller race on the nose of the pinion was loose as on 35-EX. Would this come loose if given more pinch in the first instance ?

We noted the Perfect Oil Seal turns with the pinion, but as it has not been leaking during the last 1.000 miles, we did not disturb it. Possibly the oil leaks stopped when the oil seal started turning. We also noted that part of the felt ring was missing. We left it as we found it.

A new thrust washer has been made and fitted with slight pinch. The nose piece has been knurled and a shim fitted behind the race to give end pinch.

The mileage is 5.055.
