( 5 ) 7) LARGE HELICAL GEAR OIL PUMP. The oil pump has been free from noise. Oil pressure has been maintained. 8) GEARED STARTER MOTOR We have not had extreme cold weather to test the Starter under the worst conditions. The Engine however, has been revolved with no hesitation and quick starts made from cold. A series of 50 engagements has been made irrespective of necessary starts each day, to a total of 500. The starter-motor has shown no sign of failure, no rubbing of starter teeth upon flywheel teeth. The over-run noise is not objectionable and most probably would not be noticed. 9) EXISTING BENTLEY DYNAMO WITH MODIFIED VOLTAGE CONTROL REGULATOR. There has been no failure of the dynamo. Evaporation of water from Battery .4 of a pint, during the mileage. The out-put is as follows :- Headlamps using 60 Watt bulbs Daylight driving Side tail & instrument switched on coil only: 10 MPH....16 Amps.discharge 2 Amps. discharge 20 MPH.... 6 " " 0 " " 30 MPH.... 2 " " 1 " " 40 MPH.... 2 " " 2 " " 50 MPH.... 2 " " 3 " " 60 MPH.... 2 " " 4 " " 70 MPH.... 2 " " 4 " " 80 MPH.... 2 " " 4 " " Therefore there is a steady discharge during night driving. 10) EXHAUST VALVES STELLITED There was no indication of valve deterioration at this mileage. We had however two occasions when exhaust valves stuck wide open. The cause being, tightening up of the guide by carbon. 11) MAGNESIUM INTAKE BEND & TIMING COVER. The intake bend and timing gear cover have not shown any deterioration. 12) LIGHTENED AIR SILENCER At the present mileage the Silencer has shown no fault. ........... | ||
