Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} 43 -> 306 32-EX. PHANTOM III. Stone Guard for Rear Brake Intermediate Shaft. We removed the stone-guard H.S.5087 at the start of the French mileage as agreed with Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFm.{Anthony F. Martindale} Several stones have already collected behind the shaft, and signs of sluggish return of the shaft after braking has been felt although it has not actually jammed. We have also had several stones wedged between this shaft and the hand brake intermediate shaft. We have therefore replaced the guard, which also shields the gap between the two shafts. We do not know if this is by design or accident, but the drawing should be looked up and a note made that the gap between the shafts be shielded by the guard. ------------ Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/IMW.{Ivan M.
