AXLES (Ratio)

Written by Mr Royce on March 5th.

Handed to Technical Committee on March 8th.

Mr Royce said -

No car to be turned out with a higher gear ratio than 3 to 1. For heavy bodies the ratio should be about 3.3 to 1 and the above mentioned 3 to 1 used with the lightest bodies.
With worm axles these ratios should be increased from 5% to 10% owing to the lower efficiency of this gearing.
