Concerning (3) We think that better results would be obtained from the lapping rig if flywheels were fitted to the shafts on which the gears are mounted. Gears are noisy because they do not run together with uniform angular velocity and anything which tends to make them run together more uniformly on the rig must produce better gears.

We therefore suggest that flywheels should be fitted to the shafts on the rig; the flywheels being close to the gear being lapped and as large as can be got in.
