OUT-OF-TRUTH TYRES.

With reference to BY11/H9.10.25, addressed to EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}, so far as we are concerned, the position is as follows:-

DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}1/H23.9.25 addressed to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}, paragraph 3, said (among points to be attended to): "The tyres should be reasonably true, and a customer should be instructed not to use a tyre which is badly out of truth."
(Handwritten note: what is reasonably true?)

CJ4/H25.9.25 addressed to BJ., a copy of which was sent to UA, said:

"With reference to the attached memo., DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}1/H23.9.25, "addressed to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}, it is suggested that customers "should be instructed not to use a tyre which is "badly out of truth.
(Handwritten note: what is 'badly out of truth?')

"Are we testing all tyres and spares which we supply "with our cars to see that they are not out of truth?

"I hope it may not be necessary to issue this warning "to customers, although I fear we shall have to do it, "because it will leave the impression that the R.R. "has so delicate a constitution that it is necessary "to make all this fuss about what must appear to "customers to be insignificant points.
(Handwritten note: Wisely would Willy)

"Paragraph 10, I think should be submitted to the "Sales Conference in order that they may express an "opinion upon it, and, if they agree, to its issue "to the various sales organisations, it should be "issued together with 1, 2, 3 and 4."

BJ19/H31.9.25. addressed to CJ., a copy of which was sent to DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}, gave a record of the minutes of the Sales Conference, as follows:-

"The Conference agree with CJ. that it is most "desirable to avoid issuing any more warnings to "customers, who are already becoming scared. A "warning not to use tyres that are out of truth "will not only leave an impression that the Rolls- "Royce has so delicate a constitution that it is "necessary to create trouble on what will appear "to the customer an insignificant point, but also, "the customer will object strongly to the extra "expense of having to scrap tyres which may become "out of truth.
(Handwritten note: a storm on a wheel)

"DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}1/H23.9.25. S. will arrange to see that all "tyres and spares which we supply with our cars
