LIFE TEST SCHEDULE FOR THIN PLATE
BATTERIES.
EXIDE XC AND DAGENITE HZ.

(1) For 13 Plate Cells.
Discharge at 40 amperes for 1 hour.
Recharge " 13.5 " " 4 hours.

A " reading" discharge at 40 amperes should be taken each week for 1 hour 10 minutes or to 1.70 volts per cell, whichever is reached first, and the end of the test is reached when the batteries fail to give 1 hour to the latter end of discharge voltage.

(2) For 11 Plate Cells.
Discharge at 33 amperes for 1 hour.
Recharge " 11 amperes for 4 hours.

In carrying out the tests change straight over from charge to discharge and vice-versa, and, during the warmer weather stand the batteries in a water tank (temperature 60/70°F.{Mr Friese}) to within 2/3 inches of the top edge of the containers in order to avoid unduly high electrolyte temperatures (maximum permissible = 110°F). The batteries should be left fully charged on open-circuit from each Saturday noon to Monday morning, when the cycling should be commenced without any freshening charge. The weekly reading discharge should be taken on Tuesday, the recharge being carried out at 13.5 amperes for 4 hours followed by 6 amperes for 2 hours for 13-plate batteries.

At the end of the test the battery should be opened up and the plates hand out for inspection.
