Y8080 Y8070 A large number of tests have been made on the Phantom engine with the object of improving the cold distribution and making smooth operation and quick 'get away' from cold less dependent upon hot spot and jacket heat. A manifold which gave very good results for both power and distribution was of the Hispano type having square bends and using a single 'Eagle' RRCH. carburetter as shewn in the sketch. The feed pipe of this manifold was then altered so as to accommodate the standard Phantom carburetter - see next sketch - but the results were disappointing. This change altered the whole characteristic of the pipe resulting in very poor distribution both at high and low speeds. The different results given by these two carburetters seems to be entirely due to the way in which the charge is led into the distributing pipe.
