re 20/25 h.p. Technical.

We recently had Capt. Powell's car (GED-34) in here with a complaint of noisy valve mechanism. The actual complaint as we know it is a valve spring period or swish, and this noise was occurring at 47 m.p.h. The noise can be accentuated by "flapping" the accelerator pedal. Unfortunately Capt. Powell always drives at this particular speed, and naturally he is always listening for the noise to come up.

Have you had any experience of this noise, and do you know of a cure? We understand from GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} that Experimental Department were going into this matter some time ago, but he has no knowledge as to whether any results were obtained. If you have had any experience of it perhaps you will be good enough to ask Experimental for their views as to if a cure is possible. A reply by return would be very helpful to us because we have another car in now for reconditioning, chassis No.GUL-57, which has this defect in a more marked degree than Capt. Powell's car.
