Swindell}8/AP.13.4.38 20/25.HP. valve gear. Hq/WT. passed your memo Br/Bk{A. Birkett - Commercial Manager}/3/W.7.4.38 over to us regarding complaints of valve spring swish which actually is a surge period. As stated by OWH. some work has been carried out by us and the result achieved, namely by a different type of valve spring, which unfortunately is not available or suitable for the 20/25. One thing, however, that may have some bearing on one car being worse than another is slackness of the springs on the top and bottom spring washer spigots, as we know that excessive slack at these points does accentuate surge and such complaints cars may be checked on this point. Is the spring noise any worse than standard on this particular car (GED.34) or just that it is standard and this particular customer has noticed it.? If it is up to standard then it is a question of your own policy as to whether anything is done or not. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell} | ||
