ORIGINAL X7 005. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} From Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Les.{Ivan A. Leslie} c. to Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} c. to Nor. c. to Sft.{Mr Swift} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Les.1/MA.11.4.32. E.2. ENGINE MOUNTING FOR 89UL. CHASSIS IN N.2. SERIES ONWARDS. Owing to the pedals now being no longer supported on the engine and the increased gear-lever to the frame clearance with the synchromesh gear-box, we can afford to benefit further from our flexible engine mounting by giving the engine the movement originally intended. Rear Engine Feet LeC.4325. We had to reduce the clearance under the rear engine feet, until the rubbers were a push fit, by adding a packing under the rubber. This was done in order to reduce the pedal movement and prevent the gear lever from hitting the frame. This packing should be deleted. The rubber should be given the original clearance. Rubber Clutch Pedal Pad on the Floor Boards. F.84136. This was fitted to prevent noise caused from pedal movement. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} complained of this noise on 56-GN. This pad should be deleted. Front Engine Feet LeC.2910. We can now return to the softer grade of rubber for F.83825 namely '300 lbs. - 75 lbs. load for .100" deflections. These softer rubbers should come into use, when the existing hard rubbers are finished. With regard to the fitting of the front engine feet rubbers. We understand these are fitted in the form of a jig which is substituted for the engine. The rubbers are replaced by temporary alum blocks of similar dimension and suitable thickness adjustment washers are selected. The only alteration that is made for final assembly is that the alum blocks are replaced by the rubbers. | ||
