SECRET Hodd. E/Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}1/MN.6.9.35. To DY.{F R Danby} Copy to NHO Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rem. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst. Wind Tone Horns on 20/25 H.P. Car. The design for fitting the wind tone horns on the 25 H.P. as fitted to 29 G4, apparently was not satisfactory. As far as we can see it would require a stiff cross-member in the frame just in front of the radiator. We feel that it would be better if the horns could be carried under the head lamps where they are less conspicuous, and a rigid support is already available. On LeC 4684 herewith we show a scheme based on this suggestion. We have abandoned the use of the Lucas spring bracket for the horn and have provided a thin spring steel spider bolted to the underside of the horn and using existing bolts. The required elasticity to produce the correct tone in the horn will have to be determined experimentally, but we have little evidence that the elasticity of the mounting has any real effect on the tone of the horn. This is a point we suggest which could be determined experimentally. The only experimental car to which this scheme could be fitted is 21 G4 now in France. However, if it is desired to gain experience before this car returns we suggest that LA.{L. A. Archer} would most likely be able to arrange with Sales to have it fitted to a trials car.
