MINISTRY OF AIRCRAFT PRODUCTION, A.G.T.B., MILLBANK, S.W.1. Copies to :- Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from Ve. Dear Mr. Viale, Rolls-Royce 40 mm. Gun. Thank you for your letter of the 28th ultimo in regard to the above subject. I note that you are in course of modifying both the left-hand and right-hand guns in the light of the report by S.E.E. Pendine, and agree to the left-hand gun being despatched direct to Duxford, while the right-hand gun goes back to Pendine for further functioning trials. The installation of the left-hand gun in the Beaufighter need not be held up pending the result of the further trials at Pendine, but air firing trials at Duxford should not take place until the re-trial of the right-hand gun at Pendine has been satisfactorily completed.
