Installation of 40 mm. Rolls-Royce Gun in Beaufighter.

Dear Sirs,

Further to your letter of the 23rd May, reference AIRCRAFT/EDO/F/210, and the drawings contained therein :-

As a result of extended trials at Pendine and experiments at Derby, we now find that the ejection on the gun varies at elevation and depression more than was anticipated and is such that the agreed length of slots in the keel of 12.2" is inadequate to cope with the variation.

We should therefore be glad if the length of the slot could be increased to 18.83" and enclose a tracing based on your drawing K.14154 indicating the proposed alteration following your present method of construction.

If you agree, we should be pleased if you would forward an amended copy of drawing K.14154 to Duxford and ourselves as soon as possible.

Yours faithfully,
for ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED.

(S.M. Viale)
Chief Engineer,
Armaments Division.
