I can now realise that it is possible to run with a strap connection and a shorter arm than with the positive connecting link.

The difficulty in my mind is that we cannot get sufficient damping with one way action. I had thought of making the connecting link with a set-up spring between the two balls, forcing the two balls apart. This might form a safety device in the direction of compression, it would avoid the necessity of adjustment, the friction is not detrimental, and we believe that the ball ends do not wear any more under these conditions because of the absence of rattle.

X8430 We have found the scheme excellent to provide damping of the steering in the ball ends of the cross steering tube, which are fitted up with 1200 lbs. set-up springs.
