TO BY FROM E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} ORIGINAL E1/M31.5.27. C. to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} EAC. 7. X7290 X7770 X7560 Referring to EAC. undershields there has been no opportunity of examining the proposed alterations in detail, but in general they appear to be what is required, and should be put in hand to complete this chassis. Regarding EAC.7. engine we are taking no further steps at the moment to complete outstanding items on this job, such as the wiring, because R.{Sir Henry Royce} has come to the conclusion that he would not like to standardise the engine in its present form. The considerations on which this conclusion is based are:- (1) Greater length of water jacket is desired to get more piston cooling on the dwell at bottom of stroke and less length of liner projecting into crankchamber. (2) Engine in its present form cannot be changed to wet liner type if this was found to be necessary. We have therefore well on the way a revised scheme to meet these considerations, and at the same time we are taking the opportunity to simplify and lighten the crank-chamber, and introduce improvements to the valve gear and induction system, etc. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
