To Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} from Bn.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} c. to By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} COPY X.3409 Bn{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington}5/W28.8.19. RE FITTING OF BONNET FASTENERS CLOSER TOGETHER. X With reference to Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}8/CB27819, you quote E's memo. E2/G30519. There was a later memo. E2/G3619. replied to by Mr. Hives in EH1/LC5619, and copies of these memos, were sent to you. Mr. Elliott in his note points out that the stud handles are too far apart for convenience of lifting the bonnet, and also that these positons of bonnet catches relatively to the three spring clips make it impossible to pull open the centre spring clip. and that if the catches, and consequently the stud handles, are moved nearer together the effect will be not only that these stud handles will be more convenient in postion for lifting, but also that this position will enable the three spring clips to be opened when the bonnet is pulled outward. The position was therefore that by moving the position of the bonnet catches we could effect two apparent improvements and Mr. Hives tried this and found that the assumptions were correct. Surely it is reasonable to apply these improvements to existing bonnet catches if this is possible. I do not mean for cars which are out, or for those chassis which have got as far as the fitting of the bonnet catches, but it appears that we could effect this improvement at an earlier date than the fitting of new type bonnet catches, and I think this should be done, if room can be found in the new position. Will you please instruct the necessary work to the Experimental Shop. Bn.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} R.R. 235A.(500's) (S.D. 408. 26.4.17) Bm. 2/156/13. | ||
