LES

Dear Sirs,

For attention of Mr. Leslie.

We thank you for your letter of the 1st instant, and note your request for another bumper for the Rolls-Royce Bentley car, but to be of an overall width of 62".

We do not think from our experiments that you will get anything like the results by decreasing the weight in the pots and using a longer beam movement, as you necessarily have to do if you increase the overall length of the bumper. However, all these things are really left to trial and error, as sufficient data cannot be taken of each model car to find out whether it is suitable or not, but we think that if you increase the beam length in the main spring you will have to increase the thickness throughout to allow the same frequency to be maintained, and then there is a possibility that less weight would be needed. However, it must be borne in mind that it is the frequency of movement plus sufficient weight to balance out the poundage set up in the chassis frame itself.

We have put in hand a bumper, and we are also supplying the "U" bolts of longer length
