Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X3922 PN{Mr Northey}3/DN18.9.24. TO RP c. to BJ, HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} & OWB FROM PN{Mr Northey} GMK-65 - Rolls-Royce Trials. The steering on this car was seriously stiff. The trouble was put right and JLE{J. Lee Evans - Chassis Test Manager} reports as follows :- "Steering - have had pivot pins dismantled and the two steel washers put together. There is now a slight wobble at slow speed." I shall be glad to have your remarks on the necessity for "putting together" the two steel washers. Why was this necessary in one case and not in the majority ? By whose lack of supervision (if it is due to this) was this unsatisfactory condition of steering the result of ? We have complained on this car that the exhaust booming was even worse than the usual 20 HP chassis. JLE{J. Lee Evans - Chassis Test Manager} has reported that he changed the snout, but cannot detect any difference in sound. We are strongly of the opinion here that this booming must be taken in hand, because it quite destroys what is otherwise a very silent car when running between walls or houses, or if the car is standing in such a position. Has he been using any definite line of action in this direction with a view to improving matters ? EH AG E V L CEV | ||
