Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to Rg.{Mr Rowledge} x/282 ROY{Sir Henry Royce}/GEA.4/EB. 5.5.33. KOOLMOTOR ALCOHOL BLEND. Further to our memo to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ref.- ROY.{Sir Henry Royce}1/MG 2.5.33. we now give you below, extract from letter received from the Cities Service Oil Company Ltd. New Oxford House, Hart Street, LONDON. W.C.1. which may be of interest. "This Fuel is a mixture of a specially selected "No.1 grade Motor Spirit with completely de-hydrated "ethyl alcohol and a small percentage of benzol refined "to N.B.A. specification. It has a Specific Gravity of ".750, an initial Boiling Point of 33ºC, distills 58% "at 100ºC, and has a final Boiling Point of 190ºC. "However, its most important feature is the "unusually high anti-knock value which is equivalent to "approximately 85 Octane number. As you are no doubt "aware, this is considerably higher than any other "fuel retailing to the Public in this country (we believe "the nearest competitive fuel has an Octane value of 76). "We might mention that apart from extensive "investigation on the subject of alcohol fuels, we have "now been marketing KOOLMOTOR ALCOHOL BLEND for over "twelve months, and consequently this product need no "longer be considered in the experimental stages, but "is an established and proven motor fuel. "Whilst most of our sales are made by Garages and "Filling Stations, Koolmotor retailing at the same price "as other No.1 Petrols, we also have a number of important "Contracts with Commercial Users, and it may interest you "to know that one of the largest Taxi-Cab organisations in "London have been operating their fleet on Koolmotor Alcohol "Blend exclusively for nearly six months. "Due to the very high anti-knock value of this fuel, "they have been able to advance the ignitions of the cab "engines with the result that a better performance and "slightly improved mileage per gallon has been experienced. "The concern referred to is the Mount Pleasant Motor Company "and Levy's (Kings Cross) Limited.,) (continued-) | ||
