Phantom III - Induction Pipe Heater - 4 Port Head.

Confirming discussions with respect to the centre box of the induction pipe to be made in aluminium for the four port head, the awkwardness of the coring of the jacket occasioned by the use of inserts in the flanges led to the suggestion that we should completely jacket this casting.

My view however is that I want to take something off rather than add further weight and cost, to overcome this difficulty.

I, therefore, think we could dispense with the jacketing on the ends of the casting and thereby wash out the awkward places altogether. Having done this we can then afford to complete the jacketing of the top of the box and thereby wash out the number of awkward corners on the outside of the casting which at present require fettling.

The nett result is shown in our drawing LeC.5461.

We have arranged with Mr Walker to get the pattern altered to this drawing, and you have agreed to test the modified jacket with a view to incorporating this as soon as possible in the 15,000 standardisation test for the 4-port induction system.

It is understood that some modification is being undertaken to the shape of the inside portion of this box affecting the distribution, and this will be embodied in the castings at the same time.
