To Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Y3806 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/LG2, 5. 29. CENTRAL LUBRICATION. X7350 The standardised scheme for the central lubrication on the 20 HP. and S.S. is 3-point, one point on the front axle, a central pump which is operated from the dashboard, and one point on the rear axle. From these three points pipes go to all parts of the chassis. Our view, as expressed in Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gyl/LG27.4.29., is that the scheme we have adopted is a practical and reliable scheme, but it cannot be looked upon as finality. We suggest that on experimental cars we should endeavour to complete a scheme so that the whole of the chassis is lubricated from the dashboard. We have already run such a scheme 10,000 miles on a Phantom (12-EX) which gave no trouble. To get at the connection on the rear axle it means taking out the floorboards and diving under the back of the car which, if it can be avoided, would be a desirable improvement. As regards Mr. Rootes statement. We should be very glad to know of the make of car which has reverted to 3-point or 4-point lubrication after using centrepoint. Springfield have been using centrepoint to lubricate the whole of the chassis for 2 yrs. and they have had no trouble. We are writing to OY. to give us any information with regard to the tendency for American Manufacturers to abandon the single-point scheme. In the meantime there is no proposal to alter either the 20 HP. or SS.{S. Smith} They must go through as 3-point lubrication. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
