My dear Sir Henry,

Very many thanks for your kind letter which I greatly appreciate.

I am also very pleased to hear that you have recovered in health.

As regards the position of our cars, we are very pleased to be able to tell you that all the difficulties of the easy change box have been overcome, and the result is a very much improved gear-box over anything else we have had both as regards operation and silence. It is fortunate that the engine which will stand the higher speeds has come along at the same time as the easy change gearbox because with the easy change and the silent third we should expect the engine to be used more on the gears at higher engine speeds.

You will see from our reports that we have had on the road your V.W. car 16-G4. fitted with a J.1 engine with the modifications to increase the power. The performance of this car is really wonderful. Its maximum speed we should say is about 85 M.P.H., and is wonderful for acceleration.

We expect to have a J.3 engine completed and on the test bed in two to three weeks. The crankcase
