SMITH OIL FILTER.

FITTING INSTRUCTIONS.

The filter should be fitted in a warm place, preferably near the exhaust manifold.

Five alternative positions are given over-leaf which have been found from experience to give satisfactory results.

A suitable clip is supplied with each filter, but it may be necessary to make additional fixing parts depending on the position decided upon.

There is no objection to attaching the filter to the exhaust manifold studs, but it should be arranged approximately ½" to 1" away from the hot metal.

If the filter is fitted on the scuttle it will be necessary to employ Petro-Flex Oil Tubing in order to allow for flexibility.

The fixing clip on the filter should not be over-tightened.

Always fit the clip above the centre joint as illustrated.

If another make of filter has been fitted it is in order to use the existing connections.

The oil connection to the filter inlet may be taken from the oil gauge pipe line as shown on illustration over-leaf, or any other convenient point on the delivery side of the oil pump. Make sure that the pipe is connected to the union marked "inlet" on the filter.

The outlet pipe from the filter is to be led back to the sump either to an existing sump connection or through the neck of the oil filter, shown dotted on the illustration.

The inlet and outlet unions on the filter should not be removed together as the locking plate inside may be misplaced. If new oil washers are required make each joint separately.

If an oil leak is suspected at the centre joint, that is, where the halves of the filter are joined together make sure that no leak occurs at the unions as the oil which could flow down the case from a leaky union connection may give the impression that the centre joint is leaking. In the unlikely event of the centre joint leaking the filter should be returned to one of our Service Depots for attention.

OIL PRESSURE.

The drop in oil pressure caused by the filter is very small, but on some engines it may be necessary to increase the oil pressure by means of the normal engine oil pressure adjustment.
