DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}4/CB10-3-21 contd. We have set out the stress in each plate separately in the drawing. We are able to correct the stress in the bottom leaf comparatively easily by suitable tapering, and we think we can get very near that in the top leaf by assuming that it is finally compelled to bend in a curve similar to that of the second leaf. We have discussed these springs with Mr Woodhead who thinks that the plan of putting all the pull in the top leaf, and a small amount of nip in each lower leaf, is sound. He sees difficulty in producing the boss for the lubricator on the spring eye, so at (1) we have suggested a method of making the eye which gets over his difficulties. Neither of the springs on "N" Schemes 788 & 790 are perfect, but further work, which we are now engaged on, is required on both. We thought it desirable for Mr Royce to see the drawings at this stage. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
