LOCKING OF 5.B.A. LOCATION SCREW IN ROCKER SHAFT.
Wraith Bentley & 30 H.P.

We have recently had two cases, one on Wraith and on e on Bentley, where the above cheese headed screw has come adrift and found on the cylinder head. This lets oil pour out of the hole in the shaft with possibility of starving the valve gear and causing damage.

The cheese head tightens up on to an alum. washer and in the case of the Wraith, this screw had definitely been tightened up prior to running an oil consumption test after which it was found to have come adrift.

Will you please instruct that a definite locking device is provided for this screw and until this is done we would suggest that a 5.B.A. spring washer be used in place of the existing alum. washer.

We would point out that a locking device be provided for this screw was suggested some time ago by W.Hulley (Test Dept). an inspector who found that these screws were not always tight.

At that time we had not experienced the trouble and the suggestion was not adopted.
