To GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} x 5840 HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}18/KW.28.8.34. 21-G-IV. When this car returns from France will you please note the following modifications are required before it returns :- (1) Steering - We propose to fit the steering off the La{L. A. Archer} Salle car. (2) Big Ends - These should be lead bronze. In order to cope with increased oil flow from the big ends this will necessitate a larger oil pump. We believe that one was sent to France for fitting to 21-G-IV and this can be utilised. (Handwritten note: (W) modify wheel) (3) Brakes. - The brake inefficiency will have to be cured. (Handwritten note: We have a better servo lining.) (4) Silent Tappets - If the hydraulic tappets are to be retained, better tappet springs will have to be fitted. (5) Clutch - It is essential that before the car goes away the clutch functions properly with the rubber engine mounting. This may necessitate the back plate being given some movement. In addition we want the spline bearing to be in gun metal, Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} knows about this. (6) Exhaust System - When we sent the car out the exhaust system had the boom left in it at 30 M.P.H. We want to get rid of this. Wayman has been working on the exhaust system and knows the required treatment. (7) Exhaust Manifold - We shall have to fit studs that will not stretch. (8) Front Engine Links - If it is found that these are necessary to give smooth engine operation the bearing surface will have to be made adequate. | ||
