Dear Sirs, May we take this opportunity of expressing our appreciation of the courtesy extended to the members of our staff, Messrs. Hodgson and Markland, when they visited your works yesterday. We are very interested in the new AC.6 die casting aluminium alloy bearing material which you have developed and have pleasure in confirming the verbal arrangements which were made yesterday that we should test out some of these bearings in the connecting rods of our 8.6 litre oil engine. We understand that you are prepared to cast two sets of big end bearing shells (twelve, plus one spare) making thirteen in all, to heat treat and machine these completely, and then fit them to connecting rods which we shall supply, leaving the enternal bore of the bearing shells .018" undersize for us to diamond bore them to finished size when they are returned. If you can arrange to complete these bearings within the next two weeks, then we shall be able to test them immediately, and include them in the series of bearing and crankshaft tests which we have in hand at the moment. To enable you to proceed without delay, two sets (twelve in all) of connecting rods, finish machined, are being despatched to you today from our Service Department, addressed for Handwritten notes: Top centre: 1020a Middle right: MTHS{Reg Matthews} | ||
