x8770 HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}2/H23.5.25. re. "V" Series Chassis. In view of the second paragraph of CJ's memo CJ12/E14 5.25. I bring forward the following points which may possibly give trouble or be the causes of complaint in service. In order that I can reply to CJ's memo I shall be glad if these points can receive your consideration as to whether it is considered advisable to make any alteration in design; if so what the alteration will be, whether it is considered that this should be applied retrospectively or not, how soon it can be applied and what delay in delivery will be entailed. You will remember I discussed the general position with you on this matter on the 22nd. inst. when you undertook to deal with the first two items, they being considered at present of vital importance. I have also on various occasions discussed the points referred to with Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} and BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} I have, therefore not gone into the matters in great detail, as I do not think under the circumstances this should be necessary. (1). Alteration to the shutter control leading to the instrument board, in order that the instrument board can be fixed in a more suitable position. (2) Unsatisfactory radiator shutter control rod fixing behind the radiator. (3). Fan bracket breakage which has occurred on Trials car 101-MC, (ex 12-AU) I have asked that all the pieces of this breakage be sent to you, as there is a doubt as to whether this breakage is due to the shutter control coming off. The fan has a tendency to set up a very bad vibration when running, which appears to have been the case with 101-MC, which it is pointed out can be avoided, but owing to the discrepancies of the fan belt I suggest that some consideration should be given to avoid this vibration taking place when a fan belt is fitted which does give a perfectly true drive. (4). Falling off in power. We have not had sufficient experience in the running of production cars to have this trouble, but I understand that Sales Dept. are now complaining of this feature on some of their Trials cars. I would refer Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} to my serious complaint of this on Experimental Car, 44-FW. CONTD. [Handwritten note in left margin: Carbon clean] | ||
