Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from EY. c. Mr. [Strikethrough] c. Mr. D'Aeth. c. Mr Booth, c. EFC. SEP 25 1920 3725 RECEIVED BY11-P24.9.20. X-HOND X6725 CHASSIS - FRONT AND REAR AXLE. RE WIRE WHEELS FOR STRAIGHT SIDED TYRES. Referring to Mr Whiteheads memo Wd{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}7/NJ23920, and the two accompanying letters from the Dunlop Company in regard to straight sided tyres and wheels suitable for same respectively, we would draw your attention to the fact that we consider the position outlined in the two Dunlop letters necessitates us pushing forward the possible change point from the present design of Dunlop wheel to the straight sided tyre type, from chassis 1250 to chassis 1500 of the postwar program. My reason for making the above statement is, that although they hold out some hopes of having the new type of wheel ready within a month, they themselves appear to be doubtful and suggest that two months hence is a more reliable date. We have, of course, a certain number of wheels suitable for straight sided tyres already on order definitely, with the object of supplying same to America for certain chassis the owners of which have specified this type of wheel, but beyond this nothing has been done in regard to placing any definite orders for the new type of wheel, as we are of course still waiting the issue and signature of the standardisation sheet to authorise this change in design. contd. | ||
