R.R. 235 A (150 H) (V.V. 585. 23.2.14) G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} 9363. X393 J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} for R.{Sir Henry Royce} 24.3.14. Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}4/G24314. It is proposed by Coachbuilding Dept. that we should, in the numerous cases where a scuttle dash is known to be required, not drill the dashboard for the reception of gauges, but leave them blank and supply a rectangular piece of 3 ply wood, with gauges fitted to it, sufficiently large to enable coachbuilders to shape it to suit any size scuttle they may require it for. This piece of wood could either be temporarily fixed to the aluminium dash or a piece of cheap wood could be fixed up to carry the instruments during testing and until the chassis is to be delivered to the coachbuilders. Another suggestion is that we should only supply the cheap piece of wood and that coachbuilders should supply the 3 ply piece with the scuttle, but this is really more expensive to the customer, as the coachbuilders price for finished scuttle instrument board is high.
