R.R. 498A (50 M) (D.D. 91. 12-6-25) J.H.D. 4452 EXPERIMENTAL REPORT. Expl. No. REF: Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/LG19.12.25 To DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to BJ. BACK NUMBER PLATES ON PHANTOM. We attach memos. from Sales and our reply (Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/LG8.12.25) which explain that the present arrangement of carrying the number plate on the back of the tank is unsatisfactory. We attach also a sketch received from Sales of a suggested way of carrying the rear number plate which should suit all conditions. One criticism we have against the present method of fixing the number plate is the fact that we use screws to fix the plate on with. These screws are always lost by the Coachbuilder and as they are a special thread, they try and jam in a standard Whitworth. We admit that the present arrangement on the tank is the cleanest design we shall get. All these schemes where the number plate is carried away from the tank will leave difficult places to clean.
