We have run into two troubles with the SpectreCodename for Phantom III Car. I) ENGINE. We have found that the oil supply for the rocker shafts & the hydraulic tappets has gradually diminished until at low speeds, there is not a sufficient supply of oil to the hydraulic tappet plungers to make up for the loss of oil. This is due to the oil pump not being large enough to cope with the increased leak of oil past the main bearing, due to wear. The main pressure having dropped from 30 lbs. to 20 lbs. does not leave sufficient release oil pressure to force the oil through the small Tecalemit Filter for the rocker shaft; The Filter in question has only recently been replaced by a new one, to prevent the oil being checked. Upon checking the oil pressure to the rocker shaft without the Filter, we find that it only registers 2 lbs. This pressure is not sufficient to pass oil through the Filter. In our opinion, the main bearingsshould not have worn at this mileage to give the excessive leak. 2) SERVO We have come against a serious fault in the Servo linkage. With the maximum wear of the Brakes, we find that the Servo stop fouls the split pin of the lever arm, and will not allow the full movement of the Servo. At the same time, the oil drain baffle at the bottom of the Servo plate, comes round and fouls the swinging arm where the bolt for the spring load is situated. A sketch of this is enclosed. We have cut the stop away as shown by the dotted lines and filed the lug of the swinging arm shown by the arrow. ---------------- G.W.H.Hancock G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} W.
