RE:EAC CYLINDER WATER TUBES.

With reference to By's memo regarding the above. Whilst we we have had Stainless Steel Tubes, we have not as yet fitted up any Cylinders for test. Considerable difficulty is experienced in the swaging of these Tubes owing to splitting. In the first place one end is swaged in the machine and if there is a tendency to split, tubes can be re-annealed, but when they are in Cylinders it is a matter of swaging the required amount, consequently there is a greater risk of splitting. This applies to Monel Metal also, but the percentage of failures in this Metal is not so great. In the case of Copper all this trouble disappears, and the Tubes can be inserted, swaged with the guarantee that they will stand water pressure without further trouble.

We have again carefully checked expansion of these Metals and figures are as follows:-

| | Lgth before Test. | 70° C. | 80° C. | 90° C. | 100° C. | Total. |
| :--- | :--- | :--- | :--- | :--- | :--- | :--- |
