Rolls-Royce Ltd., Exptl. Dept. Derby. Dear Sirs, We were pleased to have your letter of January 17th with regard to a set of Avon Supreme Tyres which you have been testing. You will remember that before you conducted this test, I stated that we would very much prefer you to test our improved Duo Tread. Since you originally tested this tyre, a great deal of attention has been paid to its re-design, and a special car fitted with microphones and amplifiers, the microphones being positioned at various vantage points to pick up tyre noise, has been employed, and we believe this tyre to possess both good non-skidding qualities, coupled with comparative silence. The shape of the tread contour has also been adjusted to prevent harshness, which is found with flatter treads. I have written this letter because I came to Derby yesterday in the hope of being able to discuss this matter with you, but you were unfortunately engaged at the time. | ||
