Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst. 5617 BY.18/N.31.10.35. We attach hereto, for your information, copy of memo received from Cricklewood, pointing out that they are having quite a number of chassis which require a replacement of the H.T. cables at comparatively low mileage, and that such chassis are fitted with metal wiring conduits. We understand the Repair Department have had similar trouble. We had thought the cause of the rubber perishing was due to the metal conduit not being insulated from the cables, but the sample received from Cricklewood, which failed after 700 miles running, appears to have been due to faulty manufacture, and we have returned same to the makers for their examination and report. We notice a standardisation sheet has been issued for new H.T. cables on the Bentley chassis which are claimed to be more reliable than the existing one, and in view of the trouble we are experiencing with the 20/25 HP, we should like you to consider the new cable for this chassis also.
