Dear Sirs,
For attention of Mr. Robotham.
With reference to the sample Shutter Operating Smithermet recently sent you; this was made to your standard specification in every way, and is filled with the standard spirit now decided upon.
This particular instrument, however, has been specially assembled with the bellows compressed almost to their full extent. The object of this is to provide more mechanical thrust in the event of bellows puncture. It will be obvious to you that the only force available to open the shutter in the event of puncture is derived from the natural spring of the bellows.
We should be glad if you would test this instrument against the standard instrument and let us have your views.
Yours faithfully,
p.p.S. SMITH & SONS (Motor Accessories) LTD.
