With reference to the horsepower obtained on 2704, compared with the Sluggard horsepower, we presume that the Sluggard had a larger induction pipe and carburettor, which enabled it to give 98 horsepower.

We are very anxious to know the various horsepowers obtained with our varying compressions.

R.{Sir Henry Royce}

We do not think any compression greater than the L.E. is practical to turn out for the present engine.

2704 which is supposed to be 5 lbs higher or 70 lbs, seems to high for us to send to customers.

High compression is good for finding faults in design or manufacture but certainly makes a coarse engine. We appear for some reasons to be obliged to keep below other makes. Perhaps through greater perfection in other ways, such as, tightness, filling up cylinders, or better slow speed carburation, or it may be due to our larger cylinder bore.
