FACTS ABOUT THE USE OF DIRECTION INDICATORS ON THE CONTINENT Because it is difficult to find a motor vehicle on the streets of many Continental cities without direction indicators, visitors gains the impression that their use is compulsory. This, however, is not the case - they are compulsory ONLY ON PUBLIC VEHICLES. Could any recommendation be stronger.? Denmark, at present, is the only Country in the world which has made some kind of mechanical or electrical indicator compulsory on all motor vehicles - this law came into force on the 1st January, 1932. In Czechoslovakia the police look for a sign that the motorist wishes to go straight ahead and when the semaphore type of indicator is used, this is done by showing a green light through a slit in the housing.
