Handwritten: Copy MEF Clark EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} 6/5/18 I R.{Sir Henry Royce} from EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}10/F5218. RE. FLOW METERS. X.3180 X.3149 We have lately been using a petrol flow meter on test instructed by Mr. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} F.{Mr Friese} Clark, which has so far shown prospects of being very satisfactory. It is of the "venturitube" scheme, full reports of which have been given by him in connection with water flow tests. A satisfactory petrol flow meter is an instrument which is very much required at the present time, and although there are one or two types on the market, there are none which are considered at all satisfactory. The virtue of the E.F.C. flow meter is that it is independent of whether the petrol is supplied with pressure feed or otherwise. Also, it has no working parts, which has been a serious fault on other type flow meters, causing due to unsatisfactory lubrication. [Handwritten insertion: causing due to] The installation of a satisfactory flow meter on a test house is well worth its value owing to considerable delay which it avoids, and the time, labour and petrol saved in satisfactory tuning up, and also the fact that one can carry through the endurance test etc. without the least doubt that the petrol consumption will be satisfactory, in fact I have so far found this experimental instrument so satisfactory that I am requisitioning one for each test house.
