Br3/H9.8.21. Re Spring Squeaks. -------- We are still getting a number of cars in fitted with thick leaf springs in which the customers complain of squeaks, although they are constantly oiling and greasing same. I have found two or three cases when it has been possible to permanently cure this trouble by taking the springs to pieces and filing a slight radius at the bottom edges of the leaves, so that they do not dig into the leaf beneath them. I shall be glad to know, however, if you agree that this should be done in such cases. I would suggest if this method is approved that it would be almost worth issuing a standard order for this work to be carried out on cars which are fitted with thick leaf springs, as almost without exception the owners of cars so fitted complain each time they come to the Works.
