Information is being obtained regarding the best methods of dealing with bearing sinkage, which Mr. and myself have been requested to consider. (2). Improvements made in dealing with service work which has been the means of reducing costs.- (a). By permission of the Administration to carry out re-bores locally. Approx. 75 rebores during 1937, saving £1.19.0. per block. (b). By permission of the Administration to refit shells in connecting rods at the Depot. From September 1937 to present date, there have been fitted.- Hall's metal 31 sets. saving £1.3.6d. per set White metal 35 sets. of six rods. Other improvements which have saved costs:- (1). Introduction of Palmetto water pump gland packing no recurrent complaints. (2). Front axle controls with steel contacts - no recurrent complaints. (3). Noisy speedometer and rev. counter drives - position altered to overcome noise. (4). BZ. brake linings giving excellent results. (5). Improved driving dogs. (6). Strengthened axle shafts. (7). End clearance of brake drums and shoes increased. (8). Improved for throttle sticking. (9). Correct nipping of Halls metal bearings. Works adopted suggestion. (10). Introduction to Works of brake cutting tool, used at Depots. | ||
