FRONT HUB LUBRICATION.

Memo. By14/H.29.12.25.

I have made arrangements for the Works to start at once building up inner hubs with a good supply of oil in addition to the oil in the outer annular space and the grease which remains in the ball bearings as delivered from Hoffmanns'.

Whilst on this subject I would like to draw your attention to the fact that we used to pack our inner hubs with grease until about two years ago, when as a result of a complaint from the Test Dept(EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}) which was reported to the D.O., a note was added to our General Arrgt. Drawings reading as follows -

"The bearings only should be packed with grease. The whole hub must not be filled owing to the danger of the grease melting and running out on to the brakes".

Under the circumstances it looks as though there will be quite a number of cars on which this fault will be reported. I shall be glad therefore if you will arrange to have the drawings altered, stating that we are now to oil the inner hubs and the bearings, also would it be possible to say how much oil you consider is adequate.
