Please receive G.CD.1417, which has been done at Experimental Department's request to provide a lighter and simpler rear suspension for the above engine, because it has been found experimentally that it is possible to mount the C.I. engine at the rear of the gearbox on a cross-member attached to the cross, without loss of smoothness. The engine tie rod running backwards interferes with the gear box drain plug, and we suggest moving the latter to a position on the sheet metal cover. Should this suspension become standard, it is presumed it would be possible to provide a new gear box casting, in which the existing forward mounting foot is deleted and the drain plug could then be moved to a new position on the casting clear of the tie rod. The torque arm with its vertical rubbers remains as now. Please instruct experimentally. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} WYMAN | ||
