Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} From Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 85360. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}11/MA.23.11.32. Attached is a copy of a note from Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} and our reply. As long as we have a braking system which utilises as an insurance enough direct braking to enable a car to be stopped on a reasonable gradient, we shall be in difficulty with loss of pedal movement, if we retain aluminium brake shoes. We freely admit that the Hancock brake shoe has increased this trouble considerably but we cannot throw away this device because it is the greatest asset we have ever had for the elimination of brake squeaks.
