It is suggested that if the Watford radial exit type of distributor were made of rubber base material, it would be generally satisfactory.

Further particular points of criticism of the Watford magneto type IS.12:- There are two of these which have been set down by my assistant as follows :-

" (1) The contact breaker should be made to fit tighter or more accurately in the bronze casting at the front. This ensures a good earthing connection.

(2) The armature cover joint should be lined with felt or a paper washer to make it oil-tight. Oil was found on the inside of this cover after running on the engine."

In regard to (1), the tangential force necessary to move the advance lever is quite small in comparison with the limit given in our general specification, so there is room for some increase.

† We now note that the two latest magnetos delivered to our order (Nos.83136/7) have been provided with such a washer, and that from inspection after running this appears to be effective.
