Page 2. Continuation of Letter from VANDERVELL PRODUCTS LTD dated 12th July, 1938. To Messrs. Rolls-Royce Limited. Should the lead bronze washers fail, it will prove that the Babbitt thrust washers were overloaded. In conclusion we should like to point out that should you decide to use a flanged bearing, we cannot see how you will gain any additional area for the thrust. As a matter of fact in flanging strip bearings the bond is weakened slightly in the bending operation, and we do not think the results would be as good with the flanged bearings as with the separate washer. Mr. Johnson and I are leaving for Paris to-day, and as we shall be seeing Mr. Robotham, we will discuss this question with him. Upon our return no doubt you will have had time to investigate the matter very carefully, and it may be that you will find some slight mechanical trouble in the fitting. We look forward to your comments with interest. Yours faithfully, VANDERVELL PRODUCTS LIMITED. [Signature] Director. | ||
